Joseph Anthony Esposito, Sr age 99, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2026 twenty-five days shy of his 100th birthday. He was born on June 28, 1926, served in WWII on the USS Chicago near Japan and witnessed the formal surrender ceremony held on September 2, 1945. Survived by Charlotte, his wife of 78 years; son Joseph Jr (wife Barbara), daughter Kathleen, son Frank (wife Christine), daughter Valerie DeLuccia (nee Esposito), grandchildren: Yvonne, Alicia, Cassandra, Raquel and Mario; great grandchildren: Blake, Athena, Kason and Jonas; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He self-built his home in South Hackensack in 1955-56 and lived there for 33 years. He worked for Goldberg’s Slipper Factory until 1969, started working for the South Hackensack Department of Public Works in 1970, retiring as a Superintendent before moving to Fountain Hills, AZ in 1989. He coached South Hackensack/Little Ferry Babe Ruth baseball league and was an avid bowler in leagues in Hackensack. He was a handyman extraordinaire, loved to sketch portraits as an artist, and cherished time with his family.
