Joseph Roger Ouimette

Joseph "Red" Ouimette was born in Lynn, Mass. on May 11, 1921 to Henry Joseph and Elizabeth Ouimette. He passed away quietly in his sleep at his home in Norwalk, CA. on June 26, 2016 at the age of 95.

Joseph grew up in Massachusetts. When WWII broke out, Joseph joined the Army, later to become a sergeant in the Army Air Corps. He served in England and France during the war. After the war, he met Dorothy Dobson and they were married on March 9, 1949 in Tucson, AZ. Joseph was transferred to Long Beach AFB, CA and they bought a house in Norwalk. Joseph, now in the U.S. Air Force, was immediately deployed to Japan to serve in the Korean war. His wife and son, Dale, joined him at Tachikawa, AFB, Japan in 1951. In 1952, Joseph and Dorothy adopted a two-week old baby girl, Natalie Joy. They returned to their home in Norwalk, CA in 1953. All together Joseph served over 20 years in the Air Force and another 10 years in civil service at the Long Beach Navel Shipyard where he retired.

Dorothy and Joseph (Dot & Red) spent many happy years in retirement traveling, camping and fishing and seeing the country, always returning to their home in Norwalk. Joseph lived life exactly as he wanted and had no regrets. He was very respected among his eight brothers and one sister and was once called upon to return to Massachusetts to sort out the legalities of the family farm inheritance in Massachusetts.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Dorothy Mae, his son, Dale Alan and his daughter, Natalie Joy. We love him very much and visit him occasionally at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe New Mexico.
