Judy Bund RodneyJuly 6, 1938 ''' January 28, 2013 Judy was born an only child, Judith Ann Mangel, in Los Angeles. She went twelve years to Catholic school, graduating from Bishop Conaty all girls high school in 1956. Judy attended El Camino Community College in Torrance, where she met her first husband Bob Bund. They married in June 1956 and moved to Hawaii as he had been drafted into the Navy for two years and would be stationed at Pearl Harbor. They had one son. Stephen Bund was born July 1, 1958. At the end of duty, they moved back to Manhattan Beach where Bob had grown up. Bob joined the Los Angeles County Sheriff'?s Department and Judy opened an interior design business in Manhattan Beach. The company grew into a 3,000 square foot showroom. Son, Steven graduated from Aviation High School in Manhattan Beach in 1976 and then went to North Arizona University, where he graduated with a BS in Business Administration. Judy divorced in 1978 and she remained in Manhattan Beach running her business. In 1980 she met Bert Rodney. He was working as a real estate agent for Spring Realty, which ironically, became one of the first RE/MAX offices in California. Bert also had a general contractors license. At that time interest rates were 18% - 19%. Bert began helping Judy in her business with remodeling. Both of their businesses were being effected by the high interest rates and they decided to make a change and move to Big Bear Lake in 1986. Judy got her real estate license in 1987 and went to work at Spencer Real Estate where within a few years she became the top agent. In early 1992 Judy and Bert took the opportunity to buy the RE/MAX Big Bear real estate franchise from Rich Migala who had owned it for a short time. Big Bear sustained a massive 6.6 magnitude earthquake and Judy and Bert became swamped with work utilizing his expertise in masonry. He stayed very busy for the next 5 to 7 years. As RE/MAX grew, Judy needed his help. They married in Big Bear in 1998. Over the next many years they enjoyed running RE/MAX and built it into one of the largest and best real estate companies in the valley. They and their agents went on a couple of company cruises and Judy took a lot of pride in designing and building a new Moonridge office building. They moved into that office in May of 2006. A few years ago they began to think about retiring and selling the business. They sold their home in Big Bear in June 2008 and moved into their home in Palm Desert that they had purchased in April 2002. They sold RE/MAX to Dana and Simeon Prophet, who have been RE/MAX agents since June 2004. Judy is survived by her husband Bert, son Stephen, three grandchildren Rex, Christopher, Kevin, and three great grandchildren Halanna, Tierza and Riley. Judy will have a small church service in the desert and she will be cremated and placed in a niche at the Riverside National Cemetery. Judy'?s wishes were to have a celebration of life at the RE/MAX Moonridge office on a Friday afternoon to wish her a fond farewell.
