Judy Ann Godsey

Our beloved Judy Godsey went to be with the Lord on January 6th, 2023, aged 79, after a sudden illness. A lifetime resident of Southeast Texas she was born in Lufkin, TX, the daughter of Ralph LaRue Gilbert and Ruby Jeanette Harbuck who preceded her in death.

She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years Lewis Godsey, her daughters Lisa Godsey and partner Leanna Fregia, and Tonya Sweeten and her husband Lee Sweeten and Tonya’s children (her beloved grandchildren, and great-grandchildren) Jessica Sisney and husband Richard Sisney and their children Austin and Jase. Chance Pitts and his wife Nicole Pitts. Chasey Pitts and her son Kaiden. Jason Pitts.

Judy is also survived by her brother Danny Gilbert and sister Brenda Strother, as well as many nieces and nephews and other extended families.

Judy retired from Southwestern Bell after 30 years. She and Lewis enjoyed traveling and visiting with friends and family. She was well known for many of her signature dishes she would whip up at family get-togethers. Her grandchildren’s favorite dessert was her chocolate fudge. She would make and give each grandchild their own every Christmas Eve, which usually resulted in someone’s fudge being stolen.

Her grandchildren, Chasey and Jason fondly remember many sleepovers at Meamaw and Pawpa’s house. They would always end the night with Creamy Chicken noodles and ice cream. Chasey and Jason would always fight over a “special” bear fork so she would have to keep score of whose turn it was next to use the fork. She loved to color with them and tuck them in at night and would never forget the night light. Each morning would start with some extra sweet coffee by the TV. Judy left a lifetime of memories and love that we will cherish forever.

A celebration of life to be determined at a later date.
