Kathy Rae Helm

Kathy Rae Helm went to be with the Lord on September 24, 2025. Kathy was born in Burlington, Iowa, on June 22, 1950 to Raymond and Helen McAllister. Kathy graduated from Burlington High School in 1968 and then graduated from the University of Iowa in 1972 with a degree in education. Kathy taught elementary students for many years before receiving her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood and moving onto early childhood curriculum planning and instructional development for teachers. She spent the later years of her career as an early childhood instructional specialist and had the privilege of lecturing to educators throughout the US, including Hawaii which was a memorable experience for Kathy. Kathy spent over 35 years in education pouring her love and expertise into children and teachers.

Kathy loved her career and was very proud of her accomplishments, but her biggest joy and proudest moments came from her family. Kathy married Hubbard Helm on December 23, 1972, in a green velvet dress surrounded by their family. Kathy and Hubbard welcomed two daughters, Tricia and Marcy. Kathy was an amazing, devoted mother. She made it a priority to be present at all of their girls’ events over the years even into their adulthood, and she was her daughters’ biggest cheerleader. She supported them, believed in them, and motivated them in all of their plans and dreams. She was so proud of her girls! Then Kathy’s heart overflowed with even more joy when her grandchildren arrived. When her grandbabies would visit, their Mimi would have toys, snacks, games, and crafts all ready for them. The memories with her family were the ones she most treasured. The family shared many weeks together in Frisco, Colorado over the years where Hub and Kathy spent several summers. The family treasured their time in Colorado together playing cards, enjoying great meals, and attending outdoor church services surrounded by God’s beauty.

Kathy thanked God for the blessing of her family. As her days on Earth were coming to an end, she found peace and comfort in worship music and would occasionally join in singing. She loved to remember the wonderful times with her family, share a laugh, and enjoy the time with her amazing caretaker, Kia.

Kathy now rests in the arms of her Lord and Savior. Kathy is survived by her husband, Hubbard Helm; her daughters and son-in-laws, Tricia and Michael Latimer and Marcy and Dean Wiemers; her beautiful grandchildren, Jaxson and Jordyn Latimer and Beau and Raelynn Wiemers; and her sisters, Marilee DeCook and Stephanie Walworth.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church at Agape Outpost in Breckenridge, Colorado.
