Kenneth Joseph Oberembt

Kenneth J. Oberembt, age 83, of 1600 Eagle Ridge Drive Apt G2, died on August 7th, 2024, while in Valley Medical Hospital, Renton, WA.

He was born December 16th, 1940, in Redwood Falls, MN to his parents Olga and Leo Oberembt, and was a graduate of St. John’s University, Collegeville, Minnesota. After graduation he went on to get his Masters in English Literature from the University of Illinois Urbana, Illinois and getting his PHD at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa. He taught at Mount Marty College in Yankton, SD for several years. He also taught at St. Bernard College in Cullman, Al, Washington University in St. Louis, MO, the University of Scranton in Scranton, PA and Syracuse University in NY. He decided to change careers and went on to get a Master's Degree in Library Science from Columbia University in New York.

For the rest of his working life, he pursued a career as a Librarian. Ken worked as a Library Curator overseas at the American University of Cairo in Cairo, Egypt and also at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia. Additionally, he worked for the US State department as a librarian at the University of Pristina in Kosovo and did work also in Ethiopia.

He retired after returning to the United States and settled in the Seattle, Washington metropolitan area.

He is survived by his three sisters, and one brother: Mary Lou Abernathy, Pueblo, CO, (and her son Kevin Abernathy), Donna Oberembt, (her husband Philip Andrews), Sammamish WA, Barbara Amburgey, (her husband Don Amburgey) Las Vegas, NV, and Jerry Oberembt, St. Paul, MN.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Olga Oberembt and his brother Patrick L. Oberembt.

Ken requested no memorial service. His cremated ashes will be scattered at sea.
