Ken passed away at home in Indio, CA on Monday, September 29, 2014. He was born on December 25,1931 to Henry and Hazel (Fenwick) Schutt in Big Springs, NE.
He joined the Marines in April 1951-April 1954 and served in Korea. He wanted to make a career out of it, but when was on leave from Camp Pendleton, CA, he got sick and was in the hospital where he met Esther Irene Kennon. They were married May 19, 1953 in Lake Elsinore, CA. After the service they moved to Sidney, NE., where he was an auto part salesman. In 1955 they were blessed with a baby boy, Steven and later in 1960 with a baby girl, Kathy. They moved to Indio in 1969, he got a job at Allbrights, where he was a manager a few years, then it was changed to Big A auto parts (now Car Quest), before retiring in 1994.
He belonged to the Eagles lodge and the V.F.W and was known for loving to cook and invite his neighbors in and take food to his friends. On Thanksgivings he brought a turkey, a fruit salad and was the official gravy fixture. At Christmases we always said he got gypped out of a birthday party, but he never seemed to mind. He loved the Wyoming Wild Bunch Bar-B-Q's, playing poker, bingo, the dinners at the Eagles and whatever he was involved in and he was ready to go anytime. He loved life, his family, and all of his friends. Ken kept busy always helping anyone who needed it. We will miss his smile, the sparkle in his eyes and his love for life.
He was a good man and he lived a good life.
Ken was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Esther, his daughter Kathy Roll of South Dakota; 3 brothers, Marvin, Wayne, Jack and Netha Schutt; a sister, La Vonne Schutt; and a very deary friend, Marjorie Hopkins.
He is survived by his son Steven Schutt (Tammy) of WA,; a brother Larry Schutt (Nancy) of Denver, CO; a sister, Donna Sodder of LA; son in law, John Shelby Roll; three grandchildren, Khara Schutt Anderson; Sean Roll Schutt (Kayleigh); Sheri Roll Black (Eddie); twelve great grandchildren.
There will be a private service at the Veteran's National Cemetery in Riverside, CA., where Ken and Esther will both be buried on March 24, 2015.
