Kitty Louise Sandel, 71, of Houston, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 24th, 2025. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she loved her family with an unwavering faith, endless encouragement, and a fierce loyalty. As a lifelong servant of Christ, she carried that loving spirit into the world, lighting up the lives of all she met. Kitty was an early and active member of Houston Northwest Church and the first hire when World Hope Ministries International began operation of its Bible Institute. At HNW she served in the Creative Arts and Counseling ministries as a valued Administrative Assistant and also served HNW as a wedding planner, a prayer warrior, a choir member, handbell choir conductor, and an unforgettable Sunday School teacher. She further spread the Word of God internationally, including mission trips to South Africa and Mexico. In her extraordinary 14 years at WHMI, she touched thousands of lives around the world.
Born in Houston, Kitty moved to Goochland, Virginia in 1966, where she graduated from Goochland High School in 1972. At GHS she was a member of the National Honor Society, the Future Business Leaders of America, a cheerleader, and a candy striper. Upon returning to Houston, she worked as a secretary at Texas Commerce Bank and joined the Heights First Baptist Church choir, where she would meet her husband, Mike. She and Mike founded Golden Mushroom Florist before starting Faith Walk Designs in 1985. They shared their mutual love of Christ by serving their early years with Boys & Girls Country. As their service grew, they enjoyed serving meals and spending time with those at Powerhouse. Kitty never stopped serving, so it is hard to mention the countless aspects of the many lives she touched.
In addition to her family, her church and her ministry, Kitty loved her legendary herb garden and delighted in brightening the day of all who needed it with surprise gifts from herb blends to a good pot of soup. She is survived by her loving husband of fifty-one years, Mike Sandel; her children J.N. & Patti Sandel, Justin Michael Sandel, Jenn Sandel & Sawyer Williams; grandchildren Chord Lee Rodgers, Megan Alyssa Murley, Canyon Michael Sandel, and Wylie Hobbs Williams. She is predeceased by her grandparents, James Noble & Betty Louise Brown; parents Lloyd Hugh & Kitty Earlene Carswell, aunts Juanita Bennett & Mary Lou Baker, and uncle “Bud” James T. Brown.
