In Loving Memory of Larry Brungardt

His colorful Hawaiian shirts, quick wit, and warm humor brightened every room he entered.

Larry Brungardt, 83, passed away on June 6, 2026. Born on February 6, 1943, in Washington County, Kansas, Larry entered the world at home during a scarlet fever outbreak. He grew up on the family farm until age 14, when his family moved into the town of Washington, KS.

After high school, he lived in Manhattan, then moved to Kansas City, where he began his career as an insurance adjustor. He later became the claims manager for Pennsylvania National Insurance Company, retiring in 1984 following brain surgery.

Larry was a man who loved people. He greeted everyone with a big smile, offered the kind of hugs that made you feel loved, and could strike up a conversation with anyone. His colorful Hawaiian shirts, quick wit, and warm humor brightened every room he entered.

He loved traveling the world with his wife, Karen, creating memories and embracing life’s adventures together. He loved the stock market and became rather good at trading his own account after his retirement. He earned his pilot’s license and also worked as a reserve police officer for the Kansas City, Missouri force.

He loved traveling the world with his wife, Karen, creating memories and embracing life’s adventures together.

After Karen graduated from medical school and finished her internship, they moved to Torrington, Wyoming in 1986, where Larry became active in the Hospital Auxiliary organization. After she retired, they moved to Saddlebrooke, Arizona in 2002 for their retirement years.

Larry became involved with the Knights of Columbus at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic church in Oro Valley, Arizona, after his brother Jerry and wife Sandi moved nearby. He and Jerry enjoyed being Knights together, going to meetings, and helping out however they could.

At home, he cherished time with family, sharing laughter and conversation, researching stocks while trading the stock market on his computer and petting his beloved dog, Max.

Larry is survived by his wife, Karen, his daughter, Crystal Farley, and his grandchildren, Parker and Lainey Gall. He’s also survived by his siblings Betty Ann Prellwitz, Judy Bridges, Jerry Brungardt, and Dennis Brungardt. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Issie Brungardt; his brother Robert, and his sister Clair Blenderman.

He will be remembered with love by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Larry’s name would be appreciated to your local favorite animal shelter or to Saddlebrooke Pet Rescue (Saddlebrooke Pet Rescue)
