Lawrence Lonnell McDermett, 87, who loved the Lord Jesus, passed away at his home in Keller on Monday, July 17, 2023. Lawrence was born on July 16, 1936, in Crosby County, Texas, to Linnie and Edith McDermett. He spent his childhood in Ralls with his five loving sisters and on graduating from Ralls High School in 1955, he attended Texas Tech University where he completed his accounting degree. During this time he also served in the United States Army. On December 30, 1965 he married the love of his life, Jana Morris, in Tulia, Texas. They lived first in Lubbock before moving to Keller in 1974, where together they owned a bookkeeping and tax service. Spending time with his nine grandchildren was a priority for Lawrence, as was serving in children’s Sunday School, and using his carpentry skills to serve his family and friends. He was a very loving husband, father and granddad.

He was preceded in death by his son Lawren in 1968 and his sisters Helen Jenkins, Joyce Whitehead, and Dorothy Collins and his baby brother Hugh. Lawrence is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jana Morris McDermett originally from Tulia, sons Cory and Brit from Keller, daughter in laws Tracy and Cindy, grandchildren Hannah, Josh, Hope, Naomi, Rachel, Emma Grace, Elijah, Lydia, and Anna, and two sisters Rosalyn Rainwater and Jean Ayers.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm Thursday, July 27, 2023 at Hillside Community Church, Keller, with Jason Nobel officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00am Saturday, July 29th at Ralls Cemetery with visitation at the Ralls Methodist church afterwards.
