On Sunday, May 14, 2023, 12:32 p.m., Leroy Lloyd Anderson passed away at his home surrounded by family after a long and courageous fight with COPD. He was 85 years old.
Leroy was born June 29, 1937, in Breckenridge, TX to Willie Office Anderson Jr. and Lizzie Etta Lemons. He spent his early years in Texas and attended Carver High School in Midland. He moved to California where he graduated from Manual Arts High School. In August 1955, Leroy was inducted into the United States Navy and stationed on the USS Helena (CA-75) at Long Beach, CA.
In 1957, Leroy married his former spouse, Rachel M. Anderson. To this nineteen year union, three children were born: Leroy L. Anderson II. (deceased), Anthony L. Anderson, and Demetria L. Anderson. In 1975, in Los Angeles, CA, Leroy met and later married Sandra L. Anderson. To this union, Matthew L. Anderson was born. Leroy and his family relocated to Glendale, AZ in 1989.
Over the years, Leroy owned and operated a commercial printing business and a barbeque restaurant, as well as worked in other careers. He was a wonderful man, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was was a Master Mason after being healed into Prince Hall Military Lodge 26 by his son Worshipful Master Anthony Anderson. Leroy was very caring, compassionate, trustworthy, and always there for anyone in need.
Leroy is survived by his wife, Sandra Anderson, Casa Grande, AZ; his former wife, Rachel M. Anderson, Midland, TX; his daughter Terri L. Anderson, Gardena, CA; his son Anthony L. (Rita) Anderson USN, Glendale, AZ; daughter Demetria L. Anderson Cooper, Scottsdale, AZ; son Matthew L. Anderson, Phoenix, AZ; son Jason (Priscilla) Miller, Chandler, AZ; grandchildren: Anthony L. Anderson Jr., Alexander L. Anderson USMC, Aidan L. Anderson, Kaelyn L. Cooper, Victoria Asher, Cierra Ozolin, Brittany (Kevin) Walker, Jason Miller Jr., Marissa (Jonathon) Diaz; great-grandchildren: Zeke Malais, Zaeda Malais, Lillian Carter, John Walker, and Cassidy McKay; brothers Wilford (Rachel) Anderson, Stafford, TX and Willie Anderson, Tacoma, WA. Leroy was preceded in death by his son Leroy L. Anderson II., mother, Lizzie Etta Lemons, and stepfather Bennie Lemons; father, Willie Office Anderson Jr.; brother Willie Anderson, and sister Yvonne Anderson. Leroy leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and friends
