Lis Hellgren Lazich

The ever smiling blonde hair, blue eyed Dane, Lis Hellgren (Jorgensen) Lazich, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2015 surrounded by family.  Lis was born in Hilleroed, Denmark on May 2, 1930; she attended both private and public schools in Fredrikssund, finally attending nursing school at the Royal Hospital in Copenhagen. She was the daughter of Henry and Hilda Jorgensen; and is survived by her brother Jesper Jorgensen.  Lis came to Harper Hospital in Detroit, Michigan on an International Nursing postgraduate study program in 1955, where she not only met, but cared for, her patient and future beloved husband, Gilbert S. Lazich.  They dated, fell in love and married on March 3, 1957 in Detroit, Michigan.  They have four children; Nils Hellgren, fraternal twins Steven Peter and Lis Anne, and Julia their youngest. Together as a family, they lived in Michigan, Pennsylvania, California, and New Hampshire.  Lis and Gil operated and owned The Hitching Post Bed & Breakfast in Chichester, New Hampshire for 15 years!  In 2010 they left the snow and returned to sunny California to live with their daughter Julia and son-in-law Paul Ely.  Lis was a very loving and giving wife, mother and grandmother who embraced the love and times spent with family and friends; she loved cooking up a storm "effortlessly" in the kitchen; and her favorite hobby was her Danish counting cross stitching.  The celebration of Lis’ life is planned for Saturday, May 2, 2015 - her "85th birthday"!  The celebration will be held at 705 Citron Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA  94087 between the hours of 12:00 - 4:00 PM.  We will be honoring "Our Beloved Viking Strong - Lis"  with a traditional Viking toast/skol every hour on the hour!
