LTC Monte Veal born in Atlanta, Georgia passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. He passed from the loving arms of his wife, Mary Alice, into the loving arms of Jesus.
Monte leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and strength. He graduated from North Fulton high school in Atlanta, Georgia. His undergraduate degree was at North Georgia College. He received a masters degree from university Missouri Kansas City. He was a man of unwavering character, known for his kindness, intelligence, and deep devotion to family. Monte served his country with Honor and lived each day with a sense of adventure and purpose. Monte was a skilled army paratrooper, Army Ranger, scuba diver and skydiver. He was a master army aviator who spent three years in Vietnam flying helicopters. During his service, he earned two distinguished Flying Crosses, two bronze stars, 36 air medals, and the Commendation medal with valor. Monte was also an adjunct faculty member of Limestone College and he taught small business classes at Midlands Tech, Columbia, South Carolina. Monte‘s bravery, dedication and love for his family and country left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
He is survived by Mary Alice who he referred to as the love of his life. For over 30 years, they were inseparable – true soulmates, and supported each other through every season of life. Their life together was a beautiful blend of tenderness, adventure, and unwavering devotion. Together they shared a deep and enduring love, filled with joy, challenges, laughter, and an unbreakable bond. He is also survived by his children, Monte Veal junior -wife Donna; Alison Kolb -husband Kevin; Jay Wilson -wife Dr. Cassandra; and Reid Wilson. Grandchildren, Monte Veal, the third, Kinsley Griffin, Caleb Kolb, Mera Wilson, and Bruce Wilson. He is also survived by his brother, William C. Veal. Monte was very active in the Mountain community of Wolf Laurel , NC, where he served as President and was on the board of Wolf Laurel country club. He was a trustee at Bright Hope United Methodist Church, Mars Hill, NC. Monte was a huge animal lover. There was always a dog or two in their home. He also loved feeding birds and wild geese and was friend to all animals he met. One of his favorite sayings ,often delivered with a mischievous grin, was “don’t let your alligator mouth overload your hummingbird ass.”. He had a sharp wit and a heart even bigger. It always brought a chuckle and it perfectly reflected his bold spirit and playful wisdom.
