Margaret Jean (Elton) Potter, daughter of Robert William and Ethelda Lillian Elton, all of Yakima, Washington, passed away the morning of February 10, 2018 in Yakima. She was 86 years old. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Brown, as well as her grandchildren, Galadriel Jeanne Brown, Angel Palachuk, Ali Palachuk, Patrick Brown, and Margaret Rose Laura Brown. Her daughter, Joyce Hill and grandson, Arvid "Buddy" Hill preceded her in death. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 26, 2018 at 11:30 am at Central Assembly in Yakima, Washington. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Central Assembly church in memory of Margaret.
Margaret graduated valedictorian of her class in Toppenish High School in 1949. In 1954, she married, and in 1955 was blessed with her first daughter, Jennifer Sue. Soon after that she and her family moved to the little town of Ione, Washington where she was actively involved in the Assembly of God Church as Sunday School Teacher, Children's Church leader and Sunday School Superintendent. She also lead and taught Vacation Bible School yearly. In 1959, she was blessed with her second daughter, Joyce Marie. After 13 years in Ione she then moved to Colville, Washington. In 1974, she opened a Christian Bookstore in Colville which sadly did not last very long. It had been a dream of hers since her mother, Ethelda Elton, had started Evangel Bookstore in Yakima.
In 1977, Margaret moved back to Yakima and lived with her mother Ethelda, taking care of her until she passed away. In 1981, her first grandchild was born and later that year she started doing child care in the Elton family home. She was able to help raise all of her children and grandchildren in her home as well as in the church. Her seven great grandchildren, James, Bethany, Emily, Raymond, Michael, Lilly and Ivory were all loved deeply by her and cared for over the years as long as she was able. They were always in her thoughts and prayers.
Margaret was a long time member of Central Assembly of God Church in Yakima and also was recently living at Mabel Swan Manor. She leaves behind many wonderful friends and family.
