Marilyn Agey, 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9 surrounded by love. Born July 5, 1939, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Lawrence and Daisy Barsetti, Marilyn spent much of her life in Des Moines before later living in Texas and Colorado Springs.
She was a devoted mother to Kenneth Agey (Marie), Karen Rodgers (Brian), Teresa Agey, David Agey, and Debbie Watson (Curt); a loving grandmother to Ryan, Jackson, Katie (Doug), Elizabeth (Paras), Emily, Devin, Branden, Zachary (Daniella), Spencer (Maddie), Cal, Emma, and Carter; and a proud great-grandmother to Mara, Manas, Scarlett, and Parker. Family was always the center of her life.
She is also survived by her brothers, Joseph, David, and Robert; her sisters, Judy and Mary Jo; as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. All of whom she loved dearly.
Marilyn graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy and Marycrest College and worked more than 35 years as a Medical Technologist at Des Moines General Hospital and Iowa Lutheran Hospital.
Known for her humor and caring heart, Marilyn loved cooking, sewing, embroidery, thrift store shopping, and caring for others in both big and small ways. Her deep faith and trust in God along with her resilience carried her through life’s challenges and guided the love she shared with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents Lawrence and Daisy; brothers Larry and Richard; and sisters Carolyn and Joan.
Marilyn will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for her laughter, generosity and the love she gave so freely to her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers or cards, the family asks that donations be made to a local homeless shelter or humane society, or that a tree be planted in her memory.
With love and in accordance with Marilyn’s wishes, her immediate family will gather privately for her interment. Details regarding other gatherings celebrating her life will be shared at a later time.
