Marsha Jean Perkins Lyman

Marsha Jean Perkins Lyman, 71, passed away in the early morning of April 1, 2023.  She passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving husband and children following a long battle with dementia.

Marsha was born on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1952 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  She was adopted at 18 months of age by William Hardy Perkins and Madelyn Wilkins Perkins.  She was sealed to her parents and brothers in the Salt Lake Temple. She had a happy childhood, surrounded by aunts, uncles, and many cousins.  She spent her youngest years living in Altamont, Utah, and spent the rest of her childhood and teenage years in Salt Lake City.

Marsha graduated from Olympus High School in Salt Lake City in 1970, and attended the University of Utah, where she loved being  in the LDSSA Sorority.

Marsha met Gary Richard Lyman in April, 1973 while working together at Aerofast Industrial Products in Salt Lake.  She was sitting at the front desk when he walked in on his first day of work.  He took one look at the pretty secretary and fell head over heels.

Marsha and Gary were married February 28, 1974 in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity.  They were blessed with 6 children: Laci, Tiffany, Makelle, Merrilee, Krista, and Richard.  Marsha’s lifelong dream was to be a wife and stay at home mother, and she magnified and put all of her time, talents, and energy into fulfilling each of these roles. Her pride and joy was her family.

Marsha lived a life full of service to all she knew.  She was well known for delivering meals, treats, and especially her famous homemade bread and pumpkin bread to anyone she thought could use a bit of  love.  She loved visiting and ministering to her friends and neighbors, and was loved by all who knew her.

Marsha was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  Her testimony of her Savior Jesus Christ and knowledge of eternal families brought her great happiness and comfort throughout her life.  Her favorite church callings included Visiting Teacher, Compassionate Service Leader, and Primary President.

Marsha and Gary spent the early years of marriage living in Salt Lake City, Midvale, Sandy, Woods Cross, and Centerville, Utah.  In 1990, they moved to Oregon and settled in the Boring/Damascus area.

Marsha is survived by her husband, Gary Richard Lyman; children Laci (Erek) Gillespie, Tiffany (Scott) Fleming, Makelle Marsee, Merrilee (Matt) Cornia, Krista Woolford, and Richard (Ali) Lyman; grandchildren Kali Gillespie, Kijanna Gillespie, Avery Fleming, Donovan Fleming, Isla Fleming, Fiona Fleming, Madison Marsee-Brittingham, Savannah Marsee, Ruby Marsee, Mae Marsee, William Marsee, Lilly Cornia, Grayson Cornia, Hudson Woolford, Claire Woolford, Quinn Kingery-Woolford, Heidi Lyman, Hardy Lyman, Cole Lyman; great-grandson Charlie Woolford.
