Martin CHANDLER
November 24, 1931 - May 20, 2023
Martin E. Chandler of Redmond, WA, passed away at age 91. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Loraine, three children: Scott (Julie); Dean (Suzanne); and Cynthi Kay (Anthony); nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Mart was born in Culver City, CA and grew up in Bellingham, WA. He attended WWU before joining the Air Force National Guard and serving during the Korean War at a radar base in Fairbanks, Alaska. After the war, in his senior year, he transferred to the UW, where he graduated in Economics in 1955.
While at the UW, he met his wife, Loraine Miceli, and they were married on December 21, 1956. He worked for Coats and Clarks Sales Corp for 38 years, both in sales and management capacities. In the early years, he worked in Montana, Oregon, Idaho, Washington and Alaska, with most of the last years in Washington (Bellevue and Redmond). He earned many awards over the years, including trips to Hawaii and London.
Always active and outgoing, he loved his family, his friends, his church and so many activities which he faithfully recorded in photographs, videos, and scrapbooks. Fishing, boating, camping, skiing (both water and snow), traveling to see National Parks and historical landmarks, and sharing all those experiences with others. He was known with both family and friends for his wonderful buttermilk pancakes, which became a tradition passed on to his children when they grew up and had families of their own.
