Marvin passed away after a long and full life on October 26, 2016, in Seattle, WA. He was born in Newark, NJ on June 12, 1923 to David and Bessie Gershenfeld. After serving in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific during World War II, Marvin married his sweetheart Lorraine Raichlen in 1947. He lived, skated, skied, camped, and enjoyed the symphony with Lorraine for nearly 69 years. Marvin received his degree from Rutgers University in 1950. A long career as a professional portrait photographer complemented his hobby of taking photographs, and many, many albums of photos remain in tribute to his passion.
Retirement never suited Marvin, and he tried it several times, only finally becoming a man of leisure at the age of 86. Marvin and Lorraine left New Jersey in 2010, moving clear across the country to Seattle to conquer the powder of western ski slopes. Always ready with a tribute for any occasion, many family and friends were lucky recipients of a poem written and performed by Marvin.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Lorraine; children Robert (spouse Janet), Barry (spouse Karen), and Nancy (spouse Kit); grandchildren David, Jeffrey and Sherri (spouse Todd); and great-grandchildren Reese and Ryder. Marvin was predeceased by his parents and brother Lester.
