Mathew Martin Gibbons, 71 of Bastrop, Texas passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family. Mathew, Marty to his friends and family was born on September 23, 1953 in Lansing, Michigan to Richard Gibbons and Joan Probst. He attended Catholic school, went to St Catherine’s High School in Racine, Wisconsin.He later went to welding school for 2 years. Started work at Rollohome, building Mobile homes in Marshfield, Wisconsin. Moved to Texas and worked at Palm Harbor Homes in Austin, Texas for over 30 years before retiring. In 1983 Marty married Marilyn Milligan and raised 3 children. He was a devoted husband, loving father and doting grandfather. Despite facing numerous challenges, Marty never wavered in his love for his family, or his commitment to living life fully. Marty’s unwavering positivity and resilience in the face of adversity were an inspiration to everyone he met. Marty’s stories, advice and warm hugs, sense of humor, and warm smile, will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him. Marty was known for his love of football as an avid Greenbay Packer fan, playing poker, harmonic, and playing pool where he met his wife Marilyn. Marty played harmonic with friends in weekly group sessions all around Bastrop and Smithville, Texas. His love for music and skill for playing the harmonica was often enjoyed and requested at family functions. He is survived by his wife Marilyn of 42 years. Marilyn; children Mathew M Gibbons ll, (Elissa), Joshua Gibbons, (Normlicia), Jacob Gibbons, (Amber), stepchildren Michael Schlinsog, (Raye Ann), and Clint Schlinsog, (Susie). Four grandchildren, Summer, Alicia, Brielle, Jiala. Six Step grandchildren, 16 step great grandchildren. Brothers, Richard Gibbons, (Sharon), Edward Gibbons, (Chris), sisters, Lorraine Gibbons Beilke, Kathy Gibbons Fandry, Constance Gibbons Fallucca, (Giacomo). He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Daniel Gibbons, sister Mary Gibbons Berkich, brother in law, Jeff Fandry. We will Celebrate Marty’s Life, September 20th, 2025 at 11:00am at Calvary Episcopal Church, 603 Spring St., Bastrop, Texas. With a reception to follow at 125 Green Oaks Dr, Bastrop, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Marty’s name.
