May Chin Luke

May was born on February 6, 1928 in Seattle to Lee Toy Fong and Chin Yin Tiang and passed away peacefully on July 7, 2018. She was 90 years old. May attended Garfield High School and was whisked away at the age of sixteen by the handsome and charming Gene Ling Luke. They raised a family of five exceptional children. May and Gene owned and operated several restaurants including; Top Spot, Gene's Grill, Lake Garden Cafe and Lake Garden Restaurant.

From its inception, May was a fanatic supporter of the Seattle Imperials Drum & Bugle Corps because all three of her sons played the bugle. She supported her two daughters who were members of the Chinese Girls Drill Team. After Gene passed away in 1973, May attended Seattle Community College where she received her GED and AA degree. She had several positions within the Seattle School District including assisting in the bilingual program at Cleveland High School. After retirement she volunteered at Kin On.

May enjoyed playing Mah Jong with her friends and socializing with the "Martini Girls" at Sun Ya Restaurant. Her favorite pastime was dancing. She loved our local sports teams, the Huskies, the Seahawks and the Mariners.

In 1997 at age 69, she married Raymond Lew and they had seven happy years together dancing and traveling the world. May was a faithful member of Cornerstone Christian Fellowship in Bellevue. She was baptized with two of her grandchildren in 2008. She became known at church for her famous 'angel' eggs. In 2013, she moved to Merrill Gardens in Renton where she genuinely enjoyed her active life.

Everyone who knew her will miss her quick wit and sparkling personality.

May is predeceased by siblings Ted Jue (Miriam), Rose Chin, Lily Cortez, and Wallace Wong, and predeceased by her daughter Darlene Merrill (Neal Jacobson). She is survived by siblings Violet King, Don Wong (Becky), and Wendee Ong (Benny); by her children Vickye Luke-Yabuki (Calvin), Greg Luke (Cate), Curtis Luke, Brandt Luke (Shannon); by her grandchildren Michelle Chin, Gene 'Devi' Devin (Gloria), Nathan Merrill, Melissa Keary (Paul), Tiffany Yabuki, Zac Hendrix (Farhana), Chelsea Brown (Dustin), Jordan Luke, Jenna Hirtzer (Clint), Ryan Luke, Samuel Luke and Carter Luke; and by her great grandchildren David Jimmerson, Ella May Keary and Cameron Keary.
