Rev. Michael “Mike” David Morgan, H.R., 72, of Texarkana, Texas, went to his eternal home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 21, 2025.
Mike was born on July 26, 1953, to Alec and Bernice Morgan in Texarkana, Arkansas. Throughout junior high and high school, Mike was an avid Boy Scout, earning the rank of Eagle Scout and working several summers at Scout Camp. After graduating from Texas High School in 1971, he began studying Biology and Chemistry at Baylor University and medicine at the University of Texas Medical School in San Antonio.
After two years in medical school, Mike realized that medicine was not where he was meant to be. He spent the next ten years working in construction with WC Lee Construction Company, Bruce Kennedy Construction and Earl Smith Construction. During that time, he completed his bachelor’s degree at East Texas State University in Texarkana and later became a pharmaceutical sales representative with E.R. Squibb & Sons.
In the summer of 1988, Mike felt a calling to ministry. In August 1989, he began studying at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Austin, Texas, where he graduated with his Masters of Divinity in May 1992 as a Gene Brown Scholar. His first call as an ordained and installed pastor was to Trinity Presbyterian Church in Port Neches, Texas in May 1992. In 2001, Mike accepted a call to serve as pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Hillsboro, Texas, and in 2009, he became pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Magnolia, Arkansas.
Upon retirement Mike was attending First Presbyterian Church in Hooks, Texas and after two Sundays an elder asked him to serve as pastor where he served until July 2025.
In January 1971, Mike met the love of his life, Debbie, in a biology class at Texas High School. They were married on June 15, 1975, and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Together, they raised two children, Maggie and Josh, who were the pride and joy of his life.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Alec and Bernice Morgan, his brother, Chuck Morgan, sister-in-law Teresa Morgan and brother-in-law Ron Slack. He is survived by his wife, Debbie; daughter, Maggie Roberts (Michael); son, Josh Morgan (Andrea); grandchildren, Natalie and Andrew Morgan, and Traci and Brinlee Brush; sister, Rebecca Mercer (Lloyd); brother, Doug Morgan; sister-in-law Beth Morgan; sister-in-law Teresa Slack and several beloved nieces, nephews, and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Pastor Brian Bixler of First Baptist Church of Texarkana, Andrea, April, Carolyn and Lara with Dierksen Hospice and Rebekah, Abby, and Macey with Right At Home for their exceptional care and compassion.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 8, 2025 in the Atrium at First Baptist Church Texarkana, 3015 Moores Ln., Texarkana, TX 75503 at 1pm with a visitation to follow.
