1926-2013
Norma Vivian Gambarini Heatley, 87, of Walnut Creek, California, died on August 17, 2013. She is preceded in death by her husband Cliff in 1988, her sons Clay and Craig, and siblings Radio, Lea and Ada. She is survived by two grandsons Zachery and Adrian, her daughter-in-law Affaf, and many nieces and nephews.
She was born in June of 1926, in Alameda, the fourth child of Benjamin and Amelia Gambarini. She attended and graduated from St. Joseph Grade School, Alameda High School, and Holy Names College in Oakland, CA.
March 1948, Norma married Cliff Heatley, and had two brilliantly gifted boys. Through the years Norma worked for a variety of entities including: New Zealand Insurance Co., US Army Engineers, Oakland Airport, Collection Agency, Encinal Terminals, Goldmans, Neiman Marcus, and an Orthodontist. Norma’s all time favorite was her volunteer service at the Hospice Thrift Store in Walnut Creek . . . for the past 17 years.
Norma’s travels took her to many beautiful places including Hawaii, India, Spain, France, Morocco, Sicily, Mexico, and Tullio’s in Walnut Creek. She loved museums of any kind.
Wherever she lived, Norma made many friends and was known for her gracious hospitality, excellent Italian cuisine and lingering conversation on any current topic. Upon her arrival in Rossmoor 21 years ago, she became active in numerous clubs including the Italian Club, Lapidary Club, Computer Club, Republican Club, and Golden State Club. Her hobbies included water colors, quilting, and jewelry making.
A tribute to Norma will be scheduled for a later date. Donations may be made in Norma’s name to Hospice of Walnut Creek, 1345 Newell Ave., Walnut Creek, CA 94596.
