Patrick Allen Gilbert, affectionately known as "Skeeter," passed away peacefully at his home on March 8, 2026, at the age of 72. A man of profound integrity and heart of gold, Patrick’s life was defined by hard work, humor, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community.
Born in Monrovia, California, on November 20, 1953, to Albert and Leona (Davis) Gilbert, Patrick’s tenacity guided him from a young age. In April 1971, he left Azusa, California to serve in the United States Army, a journey that took him from Hawaii to South Korea. It was there that he met the love of his life, Yong Tae Ham. They married in 1977, beginning a beautiful 48-year journey together. Serving his country for 7 years and following his honorable discharge in 1979 at Fort Lewis, Washington, Patrick returned to California, where he dedicated 33 years to the City of Los Angeles as a Heavy Equipment Operator with Street Maintenance.
Patrick’s work ethic was legendary, but his contributions reached far beyond his professional duties, as he was a known pillar of his community. Countless individuals benefited from his kindness, whether mentoring youth in baseball, assisting the elderly, donating to St. Judes, Shriners and Wounded Warrior Project or famously opening his home to local musicians for jam sessions.
Though he possessed a playful, ornery side, Patrick was most admired for his kindness and humble nature. When he wasn’t helping others, he lived life to the fullest. A natural athlete, he spent his younger years on the baseball and softball fields and on the bowling lanes, eventually trading his glove for golf clubs in his later years. He found true freedom on the open road, frequently riding his Harley-Davidson to Sturgis and participating in the Love Ride & Toys for Tots. Music, however, was his greatest passion. He took immense pride in recording a song with his cousin, Link Davis Jr., and held a lifelong admiration for Grand Funk Railroad’s Mark Farner; his only remaining bucket list wish was the chance to play music alongside his idol.
Above all, Patrick was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Yong (Momma Rose); his daughter, Clara (Paul) and their children, Eyan, Ryan, and Alexandria; his eldest son, Christopher (Rosio) and their children, Michael, Korea, and Justin; and his youngest son, William and his children, Jade and Syrene. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren Evangalyne and Andelaysha; nieces Stephanie, Andrea, and Leona; and nephew Gary. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Lizabeth and Alicia.
A celebration of life in his honor will be held at VFW Azusa Post 8070, located at 250 E 1st St, Azusa, CA 91702, on April 17, 2026, starting at 2:00 PM.
Though Skeeter has left his earthly vessel, his spirit remains. His legacy lives on through the love of his family, harmonized in memories and music, enduring for all time.
