Dr. Paul Alan Speakman, 71, of Sparks, Nevada, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026. Born in Columbus, Ohio, on July 12, 1954, he was the third child of Fred and Millie Speakman.

Paul graduated from Grandview Heights High School in Grandview Heights, Ohio in 1972 and from the Ohio State University with a Doctor of Optometry in 1978. He spent over 40 years as a well-respected optometrist in Sparks, Nevada, and was known for his dedication to his patients, always going the extra mile to ensure they had a full understanding of their eye care. Paul was also a member of the Sparks Rotary Club and was the staff optometrist at Sierra Nevada Job Corps for decades.

Paul married Lori Tyznik on July 7, 1979, and they had two children, Andrew and Amy Speakman. He was an avid Ohio State football fan, could be found listening to classic rock hours on end, and enjoyed hunting for good deals (regardless of what he was looking to acquire). Paul was always so thoughtful of his family and those he loved, incredibly knowledgeable about so many things, and thoroughly enjoyed being on the giving and receiving end of a good-natured spar.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Millie Speakman. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lori, as well as his children, Andrew and Amy, and grandson, Liam; sister, Pattie (Mike) Budd and brother, Mike Speakman, and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Paul’s life will be organized at a later date.
