Philip Boncaro Sr., 82, of Lakeland FL, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026, at Lakeland Regional Hospital in Florida, surrounded by those he loved after a sudden and brief illness.
Son of the late Samuel and Fannie (Amore) Boncaro, Philip, graduated from Geneva High School and The University of Buffalo, Philip lived for his family and found his greatest joy in his children and grandchildren. He was their biggest supporter and rarely missed a sporting event, proudly filming games and competitions so he could relive those moments for years to come. Throughout his career, he served as Vice President of Howards Express Trucking Company in Geneva, where he was known for his dedication, leadership, and strong work ethic. Outside of work, Philip had a passion for racing drag cars and was an avid fisherman who looked forward each year to annual fishing charters in Key West, Florida, and participating in the Lake Trout Derby in Geneva, New York. He also had a passion for making homemade wine that he loved sharing with family and friends. Philip was a proud member of the Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus, reflecting his commitment to service and community. In retirement, Philip and the love of his life, Norma, embraced adventure and traveled across the country in their RV, creating treasured memories before eventually settling in Lakeland, Florida.
Philip had a remarkable way of making people feel seen and valued. He remembered the details of the lives of nearly everyone he met and took a genuine interest in those around him. Whether reconnecting with an old friend or meeting someone for the first time, conversations with Philip left people feeling heard, cared for, and important. His kindness, attentiveness, and sincere interest in others made a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Philip is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Norma Boncaro; his three children, Maria Boncaro, Philip Boncaro Jr., and Paul Boncaro; and his five grandchildren, Kyle (Brianne) Boncaro, Nicholas (Alyssa) Andrews, Blake Boncaro, Lauren Boncaro, and Dylan Boncaro. He is also survived by his cherished great-grandchild, Ryder Boncaro; his brother, Samuel Jr. (Joanne) Boncaro; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. While there will be no calling hours, an announcement will be made regarding a celebration of life later this year.
