Phyllis H. Sanford

Phyllis Hunt Sanford passed away Sunday January 31, 2021 in Tomball, Texas at the age of 82.

Born in Hattiesburg Mississippi in 1938 to Mary "Marie" Elizabeth and Hugh Royal Hunt, she was a graduate of Mississippi College; she later obtained her master's degree in education and certification in student counseling. Her career spanned six decades serving others through her statistical mind and servant heart.

Settling into Carmel, Indiana, she trained and tutored Carmel students from 1975 until retiring after 20 years of dedicated service. Upon relocating to Texas, Phyllis spent her "retirement years" sharing her gift of teaching with students at University of North Texas, Tarrant County Community College, Lone Star College, and Rosehill Christian School. Despite working in retirement, Phyllis and Lee enjoyed traveling the world and sharing their adventures with others.

Phyllis is survived by her husband of 60 years, Lee, daughter Shannon, son Scott, daughter in-law Angela, and grandchildren Logan and Jessica.

At her request, services will not be conducted. The family will notify friends and loved ones when a celebration of life is scheduled in the future.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in her honor to one of her (or your) favorite charities is appreciated:

Carmel Education Foundation is the private funding partner of Carmel Clay Schools in Carmel, Indiana where Phyllis spent 20 years shaping the minds of youth. Donations benefit the children in the Carmel community. www.ccs.k12.in.us

Operation Kindness is the largest no-kill animal shelter in North Texas. Phyllis, a lifelong animal welfare supporter, supported Operation Kindness even after leaving the North Texas area. When you give to Operation Kindness, your donation will go toward saving the lives of homeless pets. www.operationkindness.org

Boys and Girls Country is a licensed residential home for children and young adults based just north of Houston and down the road from her last homestead. Boys and Girls Country helps to break the cycle of poverty for children by providing a secure, stable, Christian home environment. www.boysandgirlscountry.org
