Raymond "Thad" Corcoran passed away at his home May 23rd in Spring Valley, CA. Thad was born in Livermore, CA and grew up in San Mateo attending Serra High School. He enlisted in the Navy in 1962, serving as a Hospital Corpsman. He met and married the love of his life, Mary, while serving at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego. They were married for 57 years. After leaving the Navy, Thad earned a BS degree in Finance with a minor in Chemistry from San Diego State University. He went on to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). Other than nursing, he was a jack of all trades, working in dialysis, construction, carpentry, and sales. He was a "do it yourself" and "fix it" kind of guy. There was always a creative solution to any problem.
Thad also took on many volunteer roles. He coached and umpired youth softball, was a volunteer fire fighter for Jamul and supported the veteran community by cooking with the Marine Corps League Chapter 1032 at the VFW Post 2275 in El Cajon, CA.
Not an idle man, his hobbies included coin and stamp collecting, trading stocks, camping, hunting, fishing, flying, traveling, cooking, and was a long time Padres fan. He also loved a good game of poker. He earned his Private Pilot's License and enjoyed flying so much, that he bought and flew his piper aircraft for years.
Always the loving and caring husband, he spent the last few years as a caregiver to Mary, preparing all her favorite meals, driving her to church, meeting her every need and keeping the "team" together.
Thad had a quick wit and loved to tell colorful jokes. He was an equal opportunity offender. Additionally, he enjoyed debating and arguing with anyone who would engage.
He was a proud lifetime member of the Marine Corps League Chapter 1032 and member of the American Legion.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond P. Corcoran and Alberta T. Johnson, his Uncle Thor and Aunt Editha Jensen who were most significant in his life and to whom he was closest, his Aunt Eileen and Uncle Chuck and Uncle Bob. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary, children Donna-Muire (Geoff Watson), Shaunna (Edward Gray), and Erin (John Young) and grandchildren, Hayley, Nathan, Milo and Joshua.
We are celebrating his life at 12pm on August 27th at VFW Post 2275 located at 136 Chambers St. El Cajon, CA 92020
