Richard J. Bykowski, aged 84, a cherished resident of Port Chester and later of Sarasota, Florida, passed away on April 16, 2025. Born on February 27, 1941, in Port Chester to the late John and Mary Tabaka Bykowski, Richard was a proud alumnus of Stepinac High School, graduating in 1959.
With a remarkable career that spanned over 45 years, Richard served as the IT Director at Reader's Digest, where he made significant contributions to the organization. A devoted parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Sarasota, he was also a dedicated member of the Brooksville Engine & Hose Co. #5 of the Port Chester Volunteer Fire Department for more than 60 years. Additionally, Richard held the position of Clubside HOA President for a decade in Sarasota.
Richard was deeply loved by his family and cherished the time spent with them. Known for his handy skills, he was always eager to lend a helping hand to those in need. His passion for life was evident in his love for classical music and his enthusiasm for travel, which took him to many wonderful places.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Georgiann Chairet Bykowski, whom he married on May 4, 1963, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Port Chester. He leaves behind his children, Michael Bykowski and his wife Tracey of Norwalk, CT; Stephen Bykowski and his life partner Elizabeth Santos of Ossining; as well as his cherished grandchildren, Marley (and husband Keith Bennett), Marissa, and Mackenzie Bykowski. He also adored his great-grandchildren, Aiden, Lillian, and Jameson. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Sister Christine Marie CR of Castleton on Hudson, NY, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Stanley and John Bykowski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Sacred Heart Church, Henry Street, Greenwich, CT. Interment will follow at Saint Mary’s / Putnam Cemetery in Greenwich, CT.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Sisters of the Resurrection, Mount Saint Joseph, Boltwood Avenue, Castleton-on-Hudson, NY 12033.
