Richard Thaddeus Mitchell was born in Quincy, Illinois on November 29, 1947, and passed away on June 25, 2013 in Cathedral City, California, with his friend Mike at his side. Never wanting to be called by his first name, he used his middle name, Thaddeus. Thad went to Ohio University, and attained his Bachelor of Arts in Creative Design from Sangamon State University in Illinois in 1975.
Shortly after graduation from college, he moved to Manhattan, and later to San Francisco, where he lived for many years. His multi-faceted career included work in the Illinois penal system, in both New York and San Francisco at interior design studios, as a catalog model for men'?s clothes and sunglasses, and as a collections agent for Citibank in San Francisco. For a time, he also held a teaching certificate in the State of Illinois. In 1991, he became ill with lymphoma, a disease he fought for the rest of his life. He retired to Palm Springs in 1999.
Thad was an independent, free spirit, who loved his many friends. He held in highest regard those who provided his treatment at the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Desert Regional Hospital. He also made great friendships with the staff at the pharmacy of his favorite supermarket.
He had an educated appreciation for art and beauty, was an avid reader, and had an encyclopedic knowledge of classic films. Thad was a tender, loving man to those who knew him best.
Revivals Resale Mart in Palm Springs was one of Thad'?s favorite places to shop. Donations in Thad'?s memory may be made to Revivals, www.revivalsresalemart.com.
