Richard "Rick" Dan Leighton

Richard (Rick) Daniel Leighton, 78, of Bradenton, Florida, passed away on April 19,2025, in his sleep lying next to his wife, Bonnie. Rick was born on February 2, 1947, in San Jose, California, the son of Daniel Ruben Leighton and Margaret Eileen Leighton.

Rick joined the Navy in 1965 and served until honorably discharged in 1969. During his service he earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Meritorious Unit Commendation .

Rick married Bonnie [Arant] Leighton on August 22, 1992, in Reno, NV., with clergy officiating. Rick is Father to Andy (Jen) Leighton, stepfather to Bobbie Cazares, Christina Turner and Ben Turner. He is also a brother to Michael Leighton, and sisters Rebecca Wilson and Peggy (Mark) Hazen. Rick was a proud grandfather to Barrett, Cody, Spencer, Colton, Christopher, Julia, Chance, Morgan and Logan. Great Grandfather to Paisly, Zachary and Barrett. He also has aunts, cousins and friends remaining.

Rick enjoyed riding his motorcycle, bowling with his team and relaxing around his pool, drinking a cold beer or a scotch. He also enjoyed going to lunch with family and friends.

His service will be at the Sarasota National Cemetery, located at 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota, FL 34241, on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 10:00 am. Military Honors will be conducted.
