Robert "Bob" Hartig

Robert "Bob" Hartig, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 1, 1934, in Queens, New York, Bob spent his formative years in Rockville Centre, NY, before attending Xavier High School in New York City, a prestigious Military Jesuit institution.

Bob pursued higher education at Holy Cross University in Worcester, MA, where he studied liberal arts. Following his graduation, he demonstrated his patriotism by volunteering for the United States Army, serving two commendable years in Germany during the Korean War era. After his military service, Bob's thirst for knowledge led him to Columbia University, where he earned an MBA in finance.

Bob's professional journey was marked by his pioneering spirit in the burgeoning field of computer software. He began his illustrious career at IBM—a company name humorously translated within the family as "I've Been Moved" due to their frequent relocations. His career also spanned several prominent software companies, including Honeywell and Comress, showcasing his adaptability and expertise in the industry.

Bob is survived by the love of his life, Janet Eleanor Kramer. They were married on July 9, 1960. Their union was blessed with four children: Susan Curran (Mark), Nancy Mandes, Diane Snowden (Steve), and Robert Hartig, Jr. Bob was a devoted and playful grandfather to Sean Curran, Caitlin Curran, Meghan Pierce (Cliff), Sarah Mandes, Alexa Mandes (Eric), Gage Panno, Morgan Snowden, Riley Snowden, Kathryn Hartig, and Ryan Hartig. He also had the joy of being a great-grandfather to Graham and Hampton Pierce, Tanner Mandes, and Payton Fisher. Bob was preceded in death by his father, his mother, his brother, sister and daughter-in-law

Bob was a volunteer for Boys and Girls club for years and Guardian Ad Litem in Jacksonville.

Bob's life was marked by his deep sense of faith, duty, commitment to family, and a keen intellect. His legacy lives on through the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom he was immensely proud and endlessly entertained by.

Bob will be deeply missed by all who knew him. The family appreciates the love and support received during this difficult time. A Funeral Mass to honor Bob's life will be held on Tuesday May 27th 11:00am at St Michael’s Catholic Church 201 North 4th Street Fernandina Beach, FL 32034. A reception will immediately follow at Walker’s Landing at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation (main entrance), Fernandina Beach, FL 32034. In lieu of flowers, the families suggest donations to one of Bob's favorite charities listed below.
