Robert Lawrence Dunn

Robert Lawrence Dunn, 83, passed peacefully on July 20, 2022, in Oceanside, CA.  Robert was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania to parents Lawrence and Mary Dunn. Robert joined the Army at age 18 and after his service came to California to work for Pacific Railroad. Robert was an adventurous person. He had a zest for life and liked to camp, water and snow ski. His only daughter, Judy, joined him on many of those adventures.  Robert was an avid reader in his younger days and spent many hours in the book store. He loved music and often went to concerts. Judy remembers one of her first concerts in San Francisco, James Brown! Talk about a fun experience.

Robert had a 25 year career at IBM.  Some of his lifelong friends were met while working for Big Blue. Judy remembers the annual picnic and the toys that each child received. Children of Big Blue were often refereed to as IBM brats !

Robert met his second wife Debra on a blind date. She also loved to camp and spent many trips setting up the musty canvas tent and aluminum polls in the dark. Mary Dunn moved to California shortly after, her husbands passing, to be close to her only son and granddaughter. She too, went on many camping trips.

Robert had dementia, and was unaware that Debra had passed away. His caregivers shared that Robert seemed sad the weeks following Debra's passing. Without knowing, of her passing, Robert would join Debra in Heaven just seven weeks later.

Robert will forever be missed and will forever be honored for the many life experiences he shared with his family.

Robert is survived by his daughter Judy Dunn-Stump, son in law Brian Stump, and his Grandsons, Hunter Stump and Tanner Stump

A private Celebration Ceremony for both Robert and Debra Dunn will be held at Miramar National Cemetery August 11th, 2022.
