Robert Christopher Franz

Robert Christopher “Bob” Franz, of Lincoln, California, went home to be to be with Jesus on Monday, Sept. 8, 2025, at the age of 87.

Born on August 26, 1938, to Ernie Estrella and May (Yurko) Schaffer, Bob grew up in Richmond, California. He graduated from El Cerrito High School, where he formed many lifelong friendships. In his early years, Bob worked a variety of jobs to support his family before settling into a career as a driver for Frito-Lay, where he retired after many years of dedicated service. He later joined Enterprise Rent-A-Car, continuing to work well into his early 80s.

Bob was a devoted father, a cherished grandfather and great-grandfather, and a loyal friend. He had a deep love for travel, sports, good food, and—most of all—baseball. Whether he was watching, playing, coaching, or simply talking about the game, baseball brought him immense joy. He played senior league softball into his late 70s, proudly earning more than three national championship rings. Even in his final days, conversations about baseball lit up his spirit.

Bob’s personality could light up any room. He had a remarkable gift for making people smile and helping them feel truly seen and valued. For some, that meant sharing a boisterous, hearty laugh over a good joke or a lively game; for others, it was his quiet, steady presence—holding your hand, letting you know without words that he cared and was there for you. Bob’s warmth and spirit touched everyone he met, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Dan Marlatt, and many dear friends.

Bob’s memory will be lovingly carried on by his sister, Doreen Marlatt; his dear friend and mother of his children, Trudy Fulkerson; his children: Wendy (Danny) Crews, Marcey (Harvey) Sanford, and Bobby (Mishal) Franz; 9 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many other treasured friends and family members.

A Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on January 8, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lincoln, California. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Bob's memory to St. Joseph's Catholic Church or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
