Robert D. Kengle was born in Boulder, CO on September 1, 1949, and passed peacefully into Eternity surrounded by his loving family on June 5, 2023.
Bob leaves behind his beloved wife of 45 years, Mary Kengle (whom he affectionately called “Sweets”) and the beautiful, blended family they shared which included their children, Stephanie Varieur (Justin), Mannie Saldana (Sheri), and Trevor Kengle (Michelle), grandchildren Robert Saldana (Amanda) and Isabella Saldana, and great-grandchildren Adelaide and Vivienne Saldana.
He is also survived by a brother, Kim Kengle (Grace), a sister, Chris Wimmers (William), and was preceded in death by his parents and brother Frank Kengle.
Bob earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from California Polytechnic State University—San Luis Obispo in 1973 and worked for approximately 50 years in the Cement Industry where he was widely respected and in high demand, finally retiring from St. Mary’s Cement in Charlevoix, MI.
He enjoyed the game of golf, both playing and watching it on TV, as well as watching football and hockey, and he would have been delighted to see the Golden Knights win the Stanley Cup. An avid cyclist in his younger years, Bob once traversed the entire U.S. by bicycle in only 28 days.
One of Bob’s favorite hobbies was cutting and polishing stones—especially Petoskey stones—then gifting them to family and friends. He loved spending time with his family and was thrilled when he was able to play table games with them, especially showing off his skills by winning at Triple Yahtzee. He and Mary also enjoyed traveling in their RV, camping with family and friends, and spending time together in their second home in Mesquite, NV.
Friends and family are invited to join in the Celebration of his Life on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Norwood Township Park in Norwood Village, MI. The family requests that any memorials in honor of Bob be sent to the charity of your choice.
