"Bob'' as he was usually known as, first joined the Marines in 1946 at about age 17, when he left his family in Granite Falls, WA. He eventually went into the Airforce (in armament) where he retired after 20 years and went to work for Union Carbide in Seattle, Washington. Along the way he met and married our mom Helen, in December 1956, who was from the Ukraine. He always kept a picture of her in his wallet, even though she preceded him in death by 14 years.
There were 3 children in his life, 2 from his wife's previous relationships. 2 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren who referred to him as GGP (Great Grandpa) and countless pets. At age 90 he had outlived 2 nephews, a sister, a step daughter and his wife. He did all the things the doctors tell you not to do to have a healthy long life, smoked a pack a day or more of cigarettes, drank copious amounts of Rainier beer, never exercised (and rarely saw a doctor) and worked shift work for 20 years. He could have a temper and swore like a Marine, but could be generous as well.
He liked the simpler things in life...to go out and eat every Sunday with family members, visit the casinos (where he got his wallet stolen last year and had to retake his drivers test and he passed!) and see other relatives in other states and he often visited his sister while she was alive. He played card games, or dominoes. And it seemed like no matter where he went he often drew young children and dogs to him.
He is survived by his stepson, Steve and his daughter, Margaret.
"Bob" was cremated early in March and his ashes will be spread off of Deception Pass Bridge in Anacortes, WA. To be set at a later date.
