Robert G. Redington, 82, of Spokane, passed away following a heart attack. He was born in Spokane, Washington, to John and Evelyn Redington and was the youngest of four children.
Bob was a devoted husband, dad, brother, uncle, grandpa, and great grandpa. He is survived by his wife, Kelly; daughters, Carla Redington and Mary (Kenny) Steppe; sister, Eleanor (Ed) Schiffner; grandsons, Robbie (Tia) Welk, Brandon (Kayla) Steppe, and Derek Steppe; and great granddaughter, Ella Welk.
Bob was a funny, outgoing, independent and mischievous man who lived a life full of family, friendship, hard work, adventure and laughter. From an early age, he was described as self-reliant, friendly, pleasant and “an original” — a description that continued to fit him throughout his life.
Born and raised in Spokane, Bob grew up in Hillyard, where he developed a reputation for getting into a little trouble, having fun and finding his own way. He started working at a young age and carried that strong work ethic throughout his life. He spent many years surrounded by family – his parents, aunts and uncles, his siblings, cousins, and nieces and nephews – building the relationships and traditions that would remain important to him throughout his life.
After graduating from high school, Bob worked, spent time with friends and eventually met Carol. They married in 1966, and together they raised two daughters, Carla and Mary. Bob served in the United States Navy and later returned back to Spokane, where he built a career that included many years as a truck driver for regional grocery distributors. He eventually worked for URM Stores before retiring in 2001.
Bob loved taking trips, spending summers at Twin Lakes, traveling to Canada and Montana, and creating traditions that continued for decades. He enjoyed football, bowling, softball, snowmobiling, water skiing and all kinds of family adventures. Some of the memories his daughters’ treasure most are not necessarily the big trips, but the ordinary moments — riding along with Dad in his truck, working around the house, having coffee together and simply spending time with him.
Bob married Kelly in 1991, and together they built more than three decades of memories. They traveled to places including Mexico, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Reno, and the Oregon Coast. They enjoyed time at Twin Lakes with friends. At home, they enjoyed watching football, especially the Seahawks and Vikings. And there was Penny, their beloved dog, who was almost always by Bob's side.
Retirement didn't slow Bob down. He always had a project, something to fix, someone to help or somewhere to be. He enjoyed breakfast with friends, Taco Tuesdays, trips to the casino and, above all, golf.
Golf became one of Bob's greatest passions. He played regularly, participated in tournaments and was a member of Wandermere’s men's club, and spent countless hours on the course with friends. But golf was never just about the game for Bob. It was about the people, the friendships and the time spent together.
Bob was direct, independent and never afraid to share his opinion. If he thought there was a right way to do something, you were probably going to hear about it. But beneath that strong personality was a man who cared deeply. He showed his love by taking care of things, helping people and simply being there when he was needed.
Bob leaves behind a lifetime of stories — stories of laughter, adventures, family traditions, friendships, golf, the lake, and all the little moments.
Bob will be deeply missed.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday, October 24, 2026 at Eagles, 6410 N Lidgerwood St, Spokane, WA 99208.
If you have a favorite Bob story or memory, we’d love for you to share it as we remember and celebrate his life together.
