Roberta Lee Schrag

Roberta Lee Harper (Schrag) was born July 2, 1938, in Pasco, WA to Archie and Ruby Harper. She spent most of her youth in Connell, WA. She participated in the Girl Scouts, synchronized swimming, life guarding, and sewing. She graduated from Connell High School in 1956 as the class Salutatorian.

After graduation she worked at Stone Machinery in Connell, where she met her first husband Lawrence Kotzian. Born to her were three children, Ricki Lawrence Kotzian (March 14, 1958), Lisbeth Michelle Kotzian (August 18, 1959), and Stephanie Ann Kotzian (April 5, 1961). During these years, she worked at various potato processing plants in Tri Cities and Connell, WA.

She later met the love of her life, Timothy David Schrag, while working at Lamb Weston in Connell. They were married on December 2, 1971, in Lind, WA. They had two children, Timara Dianne Schrag (June 6, 1972) and Ty Galen Schrag (May 6, 1975). Roberta and Tim farmed near the Sand Hills south of Lind, WA for many years. In 1979, they moved to Desert Aire, where she lived for the rest of her life. For years she owned and operated a bakery in Desert Aire. She also worked as a janitor and a cook at the Wahluke School District.

Roberta had a variety of interests throughout her life, excelling at whatever she took on. She was a master seamstress, creating clothes, quilts, banners, placemats…you name it, she could make it. She and Tim decided to take stained glass classes, and she went on to create and design amazing works that are still displayed at the Riverview Presbyterian Church, and her home. She loved working and tending to her garden, where she grew a plethora of vegetables. She decided that she wanted to take up backpacking, and shortly she had all her family traipsing around on trails with her. Roberta and husband Tim took up ballroom dancing, and they became known as the “Dancing Couple” throughout the region and various cruises they went on. In the quieter moments of her time, she enjoyed reading, painting, scrapbooking, building puzzles, and playing solitaire.

Traveling was something she thoroughly enjoyed. She and husband Tim traveled all over the world, via foot, bike, car, train, plane, ship, and elephant. She loved visiting new places and documented it well with her special scrapbooks. Often, she and Tim would include family on their adventures, traveling to Tahiti, Alaska, and the Mississippi.

The thing that brought her the most joy was her family. Her husband Tim was her center and her rock. Their marriage of 53 years has been a model of love that is honored and cherished by her family. Coordinating holidays, birthdays, and family occasions were a focus of her time. She was a supportive parent and loving and doting grandmother, making each person feel special in their own way.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, brother Mike, son Rikki, and granddaughter Tavia Kotzian.

She is survived by husband Timothy David Schrag; children, Lisbeth Michelle Kotzian, Stephanie Ann Toy, Timara Dianne Schrag, Ty Galen Schrag; grandchildren Samantha June Scurlock and husband Tim, Henry David Wyborney, (HD) and wife Kayla, Brett James Wyborney and wife Emma, Harley Dianne Shindehite; great gandchildren Beau James Wyborney and Kade Blaze Wyborney; sister Mona Carol Scott, and brother Galen George Harper (Buster).
