Rosemary Lussier, née Sicke, passed away on May 31, 2026, in Lancaster, California, at the age of 94. Born on December 10, 1931, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Rosemary lived a life filled with dedication, warmth, and creativity, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Rosemary graduated from high school in Saint Marys, Ohio. She met her first husband, Paul Butcher, in Ohio. They moved to Los Angeles, CA shortly after their marriage. They raised five children together and moved several times (California and Washington State) due to job changes. The family returned to the Los Angeles area in the late 1960s, and Rosemary returned to work full time.
She worked in social services for Los Angeles County, serving as an eligibility worker and supervisor until her retirement in 1993. It was during these years at work that she met her second husband, Phil Lussier, bonding over friendly games of bridge during lunch breaks. Their shared love of cards blossomed alongside a deep and affectionate partnership. Phil and Rosemary moved to Palmdale, CA after Rosemary retired.
She was a woman of many interests and talents. Rosemary’s artistic creativity shone through her sewing, crocheting, and cooking, while her love of nature manifested in her gardening pursuits. Music was an important part of her life; she played the piano and enjoyed classical and traditional pop melodies. Rosemary also enjoyed traveling with Phil and their beloved cat(s) in their trailer, with Rincon Beach in Ventura County standing out as their favorite camping destination. Additionally, the Sicke family fishing trips and visiting with family in Ohio were treasured memories she held dear. A lover of games, Rosemary was passionate about card playing and bingo which remained a joyful part of her social life.
Known for her outgoing and friendly nature, Rosemary had the gift of engaging others easily in conversation. Her quick wit and good sense of humor brought lightness and joy to those around her. Her warmth extended beyond people to the animals she loved, especially her cats. In addition to her "house cat", Rosemary and Phil took care of a series of neighborhood "Patio cats" at their home in Palmdale.
Rosemary's later years were marked by health challenges, as were Phil's. They moved into Prestige Assisted Living Lancaster (later renamed Bellamar Lancaster), in 2023 with their cat Sheba. They enjoyed the companionship of fellow residents and caregivers and participating in community activities. She had been under hospice care for several months, grappling with congestive heart failure and other medical conditions, before her death.
She is deeply mourned by her children: Morris Butcher, Susan Bechtol, Steven Butcher, and Paula Van Cott; her grandchildren Chelsea Conrad, Brian Wallace and Lauren Tugwell; her siblings William Sicke and Carol Irmschire; and her stepdaughter Manon Llewellyn. Rosemary’s family and friends cherish her memory and the lasting connections she forged throughout her life.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Phil Lussier, who recently passed on October 28, 2025; her daughter Charlene Wallace, her brother Jim Sicke; her former husband, Paul Butcher; and her parents, Harold and Charlotte Sicke.
Rosemary Lussier’s legacy of kindness, creativity, and devotion to family will continue to inspire all who knew her. She leaves behind a life well lived, filled with love, laughter, and treasured memories that will endure in the hearts of her family and friends.
The ashes of Phil and Rosemary Lussier will be scattered at sea off the coast of California by Smart Cremation.
