Ruth Elizabeth (Tym) Phillips passed away at the age of 89, on August 8, 2021 at Parkview Wheatland Village, Walla Walla, Washington.
She was born on February 17, 1932 in Beauvallon, Alberta, Canada, and was the second youngest in her family of eleven children. She was raised on the farm and completed her high school at Canadian Union College. Ruth attended Loma Linda University in California, where she completed a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. There she met George William Phillips, and they were married on December 29,1955. After living in California for a few years, Ruth and George moved to Seattle, Washington where she continued her nursing career at the Washington University Hospital. In 2014, they relocated to Walla Walla for their retirement. As Ruth and George did not have children of their own, they kept well connected and nurtured close relationships with their nieces and nephews. Warm and generous hospitality was appreciated by their family and friends who were graciously welcomed to their home for short or long stays. Over the years, they travelled to several countries and made many trips to Canada and USA to attend family weddings and reunions or just to spend time with relatives. After her retirement, Ruth ventured on several mission trips to Kenya, Dominican Republic and Mexico, and supported numerous mission projects. She was very caring and considerate, and nurtured relationships with many close friends and family. She enjoyed playing games, especially Rook, and had a great sense of humor and a unique way of teasing others, especially George.
Ruth was predeceased by her loving husband George, her parents Steve and Pearl Tym, her brothers Sam, Mike, Peter, Alex, and sisters Mary Letniak, Sophie Norhton, Lila Letniak, Esther Polishuk, and Josephine Marian. She is survived by one brother, William Tym who resides in California. Ruth and George will be buried at the Beauvallon SDA Cemetery, near her parents and other family members. Ruth is fondly remembered by her large extended family and a host of dear friends. She had a strong faith in God and awaits a great reunion in heaven.
