Scott Wayne Cutler, 53 - June 29, 1965 to February 8, 2019
Beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend, Scott Cutler took his final bow on February 8, 2019. The son of Charleen Anton and Richard Cutler, Scott was born June 29, 1965, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Scott and family spent their early years in Las Vegas and then moved to South Lake Tahoe (Nevada). Scott attended Douglas County Schools in Tahoe and graduated from George Whittell High School. In high school, Scott was an honor roll student, star sprinter, and involved with student government.
Scott went on to attend San Diego State University. He ran track his first two years and finished 8th in the Western Athletic Conference Championships in the 110 High Hurdles his sophomore year. He graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's degree in Family and Marriage Counseling.
Scott began his work giving back to the San Diego community as a social worker. Next, he moved on to New Jersey where he was a practicing family therapist, then practiced in San Diego, and later departed the coast to reside in the desert.
Scott married Steve M. Pratt on October 26, 2008, in Joshua Tree. Together they built the landmark luxury Bed & Breakfast Sacred Sands. Scott was an active participant in civic life, serving on the the Joshua Tree Chamber of Commerce, as President of the Board of Directors for Joshua Tree Living Arts, working at the Women's Shelter in Joshua Tree, and at the Mental Health Center in Yucca Valley. Scott was also a supporter and host for social and community causes. He was passionate about environmental issues and the arts. He and Steve enjoyed the Joshua Tree Music Festival, as well as travelling annually to Burning Man.
Scott was a passionate and successful local community theatre actor, appearing at the Hi-Desert Theater in Joshua Tree and at Groves Cabin Theater in Morongo Valley. All who had the opportunity to befriend him, work with him, or see him perform felt the beam of his vibrant spirit and joy, and now mourn the loss of this "beacon of light and love."
He is survived by his devoted husband Steve M. Pratt of Joshua Tree; his loving mother and father, Charleen Anton of Las Vegas, NV, and Richard Cutler of Carson City, NV; his sister Lisa Cutler of Las Vegas, NV; his brother Todd and sister-in-law Dee Dee Cutler of Rocklin, CA; nieces Kayla, Cami, Carli, and nephew Dylan; many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and of course his beloved Schnoodles: Silas and Sophia.
