Shawn Wes Stewart, 68, of Lemon Grove, California, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 2, 2025, with his beloved wife, Lynn and cherished daughter, Erica by his side.
Born in Lancaster, California, to William and Patricia (Tanner) Stewart. In 1977, he married the love of his life, Lynn, and together they built a beautiful life and shared 48 years of unwavering devotion. The couple made Lemon Grove their home in 1987.
For 22 years, Shawn proudly worked as a Systems Operator at UC San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Beyond his career, Shawn’s true joy came from time with family - especially cheering on his grandsons, Owen and Hudson, at their baseball, soccer and flag football games. Win or lose, he was always their biggest fan, much like his love for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who never lost his loyalty (no matter the score).
Shawn took great pride in the remodeling of his home, as he enjoyed finish carpentry, and working with his hands. “If it was broke, Papa could fix it!” - usually better than it was before. Shawn was an intelligent, very talented man, that loved deeply. He was always someone you could depend on and would be first in line to help. He could appreciate a good joke and would always do his best to see you smile.
Shawn leaves behind his wife, Lynn Stewart; daughter Erica and her husband Jay Emel of Poway, California; and his treasured grandsons, Owen and Hudson. He is survived by his sisters, Nikki Williams of Ohio, Dawn Stewart of Georgia, and Teri Harris of South Carolina; his brothers-in-law, Eric Reich of Massachusetts, Mark Hopkins and wife Jan of Connecticut, and Gary Hopkins and wife, Ana of Florida; as well as nieces and nephews, Jennifer Williams Pollak, her husband Wayne, Michael Williams, his wife Liz, Kasey Wallentine, her husband Joseph, Travis Koloski, Brett Koloski, his wife Mallory, Donia Matta, her husband Joseph, Tember Hopkins, her husband Max, and Garann Hopkins. He will be remembered fondly by countless extended family, friends, and the many whose lives he touched.
Shawn’s legacy is one of love, laughter and craftsmanship. His memory will live on in the projects he built, the lessons he taught, the games he cheered, and the smiles he inspired.
A celebration of Shawn’s life is to follow; please contact the immediate family for details.
