Shirley Ida Grant

February 23, 1918 — May 22, 2016

Shirley Ida Grant

Shirley was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada to Noel and Florence Cuthbert on February 23, 1918. She passed peacefully on May 22, 2016 with family by her side at her home of six years in Paso Robles, CA.

Shirley spent her youth on the Red River with her siblings Mo, Betty and Jack. She enjoyed skiing with her family and competitive rowing with her sisters at the Winnipeg Canoe Club. A milder climate brought Shirley and her husband Russell to Vancouver, British Columbia where they purchased Pauline Johnson Chocolates. Shirley was an accomplished seamstress making beautiful clothing for herself and family into her 80's. Shirley was very involved with the Candy business, making the draperies for all the stores and providing relief for the women in the stores daily all while maintaining an immaculate home. She had an incredible green thumb, from her beautiful gardens at their home in West Vancouver to her Orchids on the Lanai at Hale Pau Hana. On Maui golf became the center of their social life and brought them a wonderful circle of friends. Shirley was the quintessential fifties housewife always at the door perfectly appointed and a cocktail in hand for whom ever was at the door. For the generations of family friends that made the trek to Maui for vacation, an invitation to have cocktails with Shirley at sunset on her lanai at Hale Pau Hana was a sought after prize.

Survived by her daughters Linda Nassey of Langley, British Columbia and Judy Keogh (Fred Bennett) of Paso Robles, California and her son Paul Grant of Kihei, Hawaii. Grandchildren Cara Johnson (Garth) of Black Creek, British Columbia; Barb Crawford of Langley, British Columbia; Victoria Hill (JP) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Jake and Marcus Keogh of San Miguel and Paso Robles, California; Shayla Wheater (Scott) of San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua. Great grandchildren Jessica Brown, Stefanie and Kristin Johnson, Kiana Keogh and Jackson Hill. With love grandchild Alea Salzer and great grandchild Hannah Needleman. Beloved sister Muriel Boyd and niece Bonnie of Oshawa, Ontario and niece Margaret Alsip of Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Preceded in death her parents, beloved husband Russell, Sister Betty MacKechnie and brother Jack Cuthbert; nieces Penny Cuthbert and Liz Dennehy; nephews Noel and Gordon Boyd.

All are welcome to join us in celebration of Shirley's life. The more the merrier as we all raise our glass to Shirley for a cheers as she looks down on us from her "Lanai in the Sky"
