Spencer Barry Burnett (known as “Spence”), was
born on March 30, 1937 in New York City to the
late Ned Stephens and Alma Burnett Walton. After
graduating high school, Spencer served in the
United States Navy from August 5, 1954 to
February 26, 1958. He served aboard the USS
Bennington CVA - 20 and the USS
Midway Aircraft Carrier.
Always the smooth - talking guy, Spencer found
his niche and cultivated a successful career as a
salesman in the customized mailing list industry
for most of his life. Then he truly found his calling
when he utilized his deep resonate
voice as a radio personality.
In addition to his great voice, Spencer was known
for his knack for story telling, his sense of humor,
his can-do attitude, and mostly for his great intellect.
Spencer was a lover of all kinds of music from Tupac
to Sinatra. He enjoyed deep sea fishing, and was an
avid reader of nonfiction books.
Spencer departed this life after a lengthy illness on
Monday, April 27, 2015. He is survived by his wife of
53 years, Eleanor Irene Burnett his sister, Deborah
Walton; his children, Derek M. Burnett (from union
with first wife Monya Dowdell) and Tracy
Burnett-Brogdon (from union with current wife);
his son-in-law, Marc Alan Brogdon; and his only grandchild,
Zoie Noelle Brogdon. He also leaves behind a host of
cousins, and other family members.
