Stanley R Tomer

In Loving Memory of

Stanley Robert Tomer

November 17, 1943 – September 9, 2023

Stanley Robert Tomer, age 79, passed away unexpectedly, surrounded by family on September 9, 2023. Stan was born on November 17, 1943 to Dorothy and Tom Tomer. He grew up in Los Angeles and graduated from UCLA with a master’s degree in structural engineering. In 1964, he married his college sweetheart, Merle Ann Simonson, and they had three children, Steve, Greg and Lori.

Stan worked as a structural engineer at Hughes Aircraft in Long Beach and Lockheed Martin in Denver Colorado, until he discovered his true calling as a salesman. Stan sold residential real estate in Colorado until he relocated to San Diego in 1979 in order to spend more time with his young family, where he enjoyed a successful career in commercial real estate at CBRE for over three decades.

An avid golfer and fisherman, Stan also loved to travel with his wife and his sister Terry and longtime friend and brother-in-law Harvey Welles. He loved spending time with family and in particular his children, their spouses and his six grandsons. Many people benefited from Stan’s kind and generous nature over the years, and he will be missed by everyone whose lives he touched.

Stan is survived by his wife of 57 years, Merle Simonson Tomer; children Steven (wife Kelly and grandsons Jake, Ryan and Luke), Greg (wife Renee) and Lori (husband Scott Kunkel and grandsons Nick, Sean and Jack). Stan is also survived by his sister Terry, brother-in-law Harvey and their loving and extended family.

A private family memorial will be held at a future date.  Condolences may be offered through www.smartcremations.com
