Sylvia Anne Mays, age 79, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday January 24 surrounded by her loving family. Sylvia was a native of Houma, Louisiana and for the last 20 years resided in Schulenburg, Texas and Luling, Texas.
She is survived by her husband, James Lewis Mays of Luling, Texas; son, Adam (Fiancée Raquel Kenkel) Mays of New Orleans, Louisiana; son, Rhett Mays of Luling, Texas; daughter, Amber (Paul) Airth of Johnston City, Illinois; grandchildren, Fallyn and Rylee Mays, Hope Airth.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents David Joseph and Elsie Mary Champagne.
Sylvia was a longtime parishioner of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Houma, Louisiana and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fayette County, Texas. She was a 35-year member of Catholic Daughters Of Americas-Court Our Lady Of Perpetual Help #1848. Sylvia enjoyed serving her church community as an organist, Eucharistic minister and member of the choir.
Sylvia graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana where she earned a degree in Medical Technology. She had a long career as a medical technologist and worked for MD Anderson, Terrebonne General and Leonard Chabert Medical Center where she retired.
Sylvia was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She truly loved spending time with her family and dear friends. She enjoyed reading books and tending to the garden with her husband. She was a person of great character, integrity and her soft nature and kindness are well noted by all around her.
Sylvia will be missed dearly by her family, but she is now in the heavenly presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
