Thomas R. Wilson, 74, died in Hospice care on July 20, 2017 in Sun City after a short battle with cancer. Born in Buffalo, NY, he was the youngest son of George E. Wilson and Mary A. Mosca.
After graduating from high school, Tom followed his five brothers and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. While stationed in Alaska, he survived the devastating 1964 Anchorage 9.2 earthquake followed by a Tsunami. It was the second largest earthquake ever recorded. Prior to retirement, Thomas had a commendable career as a Communications Specialist at the Naval Base in San Diego.
Tom is survived by his sisters Ruth W. Weinberg San Francisco, Miriam Easton Buffalo, NY and brothers Paul (Merida) Wilson Woodland CA, Joseph (Connie) Wilson Mesa, AZ John (Jere) Wilson Campbell CA. Tom has 23 nieces and nephews notably George Howell, Janet Peterson, Jason and Neil Wilson who cared for him during his illness.
Tom was a fun loving, sociable individual who enjoyed life intensely and had a fondness for games of chance and had a sharp sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, including his longtime friend, Roger Strong.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church on the corner of Murietta and McCall. The mass is tentatively scheduled for the second week of August at 10:00 am. Contact Leslie Carlson at 951-246-3599 for the specific date.
A military service with full honors will be held on August 24, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Rd, Dixon, CA, 30-miles west of Sacramento. A lunch will be held to celebrate Tom at the Black Bear Café in Davis, CA after the service.
