Dr. Vernon E. Hall, 86, quietly went to Glory on the morning of April 30, 2016. Born in Seattle, Washington, Vernon grew up near Green Lake. The Lake View Church (Free Methodist) gave him a firm foundation in his Christian faith. He often played the piano or organ for the Sunday services. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, and Seattle Pacific College (1952).
In 1951, Vernon married Lois Burley of Maxwelton, WA. They had been friends since age 13, when they met at the annual Free Methodist Camp Meeting at Burlington. They moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where Vernon graduated from medical school in 1956. They moved to the Portland, OR, area to open a practice and continue their family; their eldest son (b-Ohio) gained two brothers and a sister.
Vernon was interested in Christian missions at an early age. He and Lois participated in several short-term missionary stints in Ecuador before they began full-time work in Haiti, where they worked and managed the OMS Int'l (now One Mission Society) clinic outside of Cap Haitian. After retirement, they taught school in Mozambique for several months and then circumnavigated the globe; visiting friends and family.
After settling back in Washington, Vernon thought to retire, but was enticed back to work at Skagit Valley Medical Clinic in Arlington. He also met with an accountability group of men weekly for prayer and encouragement. He was a member of, and organist for, Warm Beach Free Methodist Church. Lois passed away in 2010.
Vernon remarried and is survived by his wife Ila, his children, Steven (and Barbara) Hall, Martin (and Michelle) Hall, Jonathan (and Charlene) Hall, and Verna Sue (and Tom) Martin; his grandchildren: Hannah, Peter, and Alexander Hall, Emily (and David) Miller, Katie Hall, Jennifer (and Kyle) Turner, and Abraham and Rachel Hall; his great grandsons, Hunter and Hudson Miller; and his brothers Orrin (and Elva) Hall, and Larry (and Eleanor) Hall; and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
We thank God for the life of our father, grandfather, brother, and friend. A life fully dedicated to the service of the Lord.
A Memorial Service will be held at Warm Beach Free Methodist Church on Saturday, May 21st at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made in Dr Vernon E. Hall's name to Bethesda Medical Center and Dental Clinic in Haiti through One Mission Society, 941 Fry Rd, Greenwood, IN 46142.
Thank you to all who are supporting the family with encouragement and prayers during this time.
