Wayne Kit Wegner was born in Glendale, California on July 13, 1946 and later moved to Oracle, Arizona where he spent his childhood. He died on July 14, 2024 in Glendale, Arizona having always wanted to return to the state he loved.
Known for his humor and wit, Wayne collected many friends over the years. He served in the Navy and attended Northern Arizona University, and in the 1970s and 80s he was a pioneer salesperson for the first home computers in Southern California. An avid sports fan and entrepreneur, he later moved to Washington State where he owned and operated two Play It Again Sports stores.
Wayne loved the music of Frankie Vallie, Neil Diamond, and The Beatles among others, and he loved old westerns, especially those starring his namesake, John Wayne. His homes were always full of family photos and heirlooms, antiques, and collector’s items. He was passionate about genealogical research and very proud of his family history––his father was one of the first pre-NASA test pilots and his mother was a wartime nurse.
In honor of Wayne’s memory, please consider making a donation to The Nature Conservancy of Arizona to preserve and protect the beautiful state he cared so much about.
