Wendell Lewis Bell, a beloved figure known for his unwavering kindness and a good sense of humor, passed away on January 1, 2025, at the age of 87. He was born on November 13, 1937, in Monticello, Kentucky, and spent his final days under the compassionate care of the medical team at Oakview Nursing & Rehab facility in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, and Residential Hospice, along with his family friends (John and Terrii) and caregiver.
Wendell served his country honorably as a member of the United States Navy for four years. His service shaped much of his character, instilling in him the values of perseverance and dedication to helping others. Throughout his life, Wendell was known for his generous spirit and always loved to lend a hand to those in need.
A devoted father, Wendell is survived by his daughters Sherli Wheeler and Sheryl Correll-Brown, and his cherished grandchildren, Jesse Bell, Jordyn Davis, and Oliver Brown. He held deep affection for his family.
Wendell found joy in simple pleasures, particularly his love for country music. Many fond memories were made as he sang along to his favorite records, a pastime that brought him immense happiness. His warmth and light touched the lives of many, including close friends John and Terri Jordan, and the members of the Senior Center. He was also blessed with the friendship of his preacher Danny Dennis, who offered support throughout Wendell's journey in recent years.
Wendell has been preceded in death by his son Steve, his father James Roy, and mother Lora H. Kendrick. He also mourns the loss of his brothers Warren, Wilbert, and Wayne, as well as his step-sisters Beulah and Ruth, and half-sisters Trudy and Mary.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and compassion that will continue to inspire all who knew him. As we remember Wendell, we take comfort in his bright spirit and the countless lives he touched through his generous heart.
