William "Bill" Morris Bauer October 6, 1936 – March 26, 2016

William "Bill" Morris Bauer, age 79, died on March 26, 2016 in Palm Springs, CA. Born on October 6, 1936 to Kenneth John Bauer and Viola Mae Bauer in Portland, OR. Bill graduated from Jefferson High School as a champion swimmer in 1954. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard that same year, during the Korean War. After his discharge he married Shirley Ann Olsen in Portland in 1958. Bill attended Portland State University from 1959 to 1963. Bill also worked with the City of Portland Recreation staff from 1961 to 1968.

By this time Shirley and Bill had four children and in 1968 the family moved to Forest Grove where Bill was the City of Forest Grove Parks & Recreation Director. He held that job until his retirement in 1995. While with the Parks and Recreation Department, Bill was the Forest Grove Swim Club coach, a positon he loved, until 1979. They moved to Palm Desert, CA in 1999 for his love of golf.

Bill was a true native Oregonian and had a passion for the outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting, swimming, boating, bowling and golfing. He was very generous of his time and gave thousands of hours teaching, coaching and mentoring kids while he was coach at the Forest Grove Swim Club.

Survivors include his wife Shirley Bauer, daughter Tammy Bauer, son Robb Bauer & wife Pam Bauer, daughter Shawnda Beukelman & husband Dean Beukelman, son Kurt Bauer and husband Scott Pulatie. Grandchildren Terry Brekke and girlfriend Charity Haveluck and her daughter Charlee, Travis Brekke and wife Mandy Brekke, Matthew Bauer, and Alec "AJ" Bauer, also great grandchild Kenley Brekke and many step grandchildren and great grandchildren and sister Sherry Hill and husband Ron Hill.

Interment is at Willamette National Cemetery at 3:00 on April 25th. A Celebration of Life will follow the service at LL Hawkins in the Jupiter room at 1515 NW 21st Ave, Portland, OR, 97209. Donations can be made to the Disabled Veterans National Foundation – Wounded Warriors. Plans for a Celebration of Life are pending.
